In my home role I am a wife and a mother and at work I’m an administrator of a large division of public health in our county. I see Gracious Space pieces come forward at work, but I see them most consistently at a yoga studio that I go to.
At the studio there is a sense of suspended judgment. We are not judging what our bodies can do, but talking to our bodies and helping them to grow and relax. We do this in a loving way through suspended judgment. I feel that Gracious Space is a loving and calming place and the physical setting and environment play an important role. In the studio there are muted colors, light, and beautiful art. It is simple and feels refreshing. It feels like there is equanimity with a sense of gentleness, kindness, and the ability to listen to ourselves.
In yoga I feel centered through deep breathing. We breathe loudly to encourage each other in our breathing. This all creates a sense of a calm community that truly feels like Gracious Space. The Gracious Space I feel at the studio is consistent and I think it is one of the things that drives me back. I’m not particularly well balanced physically, but if I fall over I can just laugh and know it will be all right. It is such a great example of public learning. Gracious Space is simple and refreshing and the presence is indisputable.
