About CEL

Founded in 1990, the Center for Ethical Leadership has touched thousands of people through its initiatives, programs, and courageously held spaces for individuals and institutions. We inspire and prepare diverse people to lead collaboratively with a commitment to personal integrity and social justice for all. Our methods help people joyfully live and work well together by building bridges to cross perceived and real boundaries. We are an innovative nonprofit training and education institute whose programs teach and provide concepts to be more effective leaders and change agents, collectively advancing the common good. We have worked with some of the Northwest’s best known businesses, schools, nonprofit organizations, and government entities.

At the Center, we have two primary areas of focus:

I. We develop a unique kind of leader. The Center helps foster leaders who know their core values and have the courage to live out of those values in all areas of their personal, work and civic lives. The Center’s approach to leadership development takes people through an inner journey of reflection and self-discovery and then fosters an outer journey of commitment to advancing the common good.

II. We convene and catalyze the community to promote cultural change. The Center brings people together in gracious space to help them create cultures of greater integrity. We work with communities, workplaces, neighborhoods, places of worship – wherever there exists a desire to build values into daily practices to shape the overall environment.

Mission
We cultivate leadership and build capacity for change,
helping community tap collective wisdom in
service of the common good.
Vision
We envision a world that thrives together.

SOCIAL CHANGE
Inclusion of all voices, especially those most often marginalized, is vital to creating healthy and just communities.
We are responsible and accountable to each other.
Everyone can practice ethical leadership--knowing your core values and having the courage to live them every day.
Collective leadership drives sustained social change that is socially, environmentally, and economically just.
