Tapping into the Gracious Space that is already there

I work across a lot of different issue areas, and whether it’s in the faith community, education, community organizing, or even corporate arenas, the concept of Gracious Space is very powerful. I find that Gracious Space is not a found energy, but an energy that is already present which we are just beginning to tap into. When I raise the idea of Gracious Space in these arenas it’s like people are discovering something new, and though it has been here all along, the wording is freeing and invites us to experiment.

In my life I have experienced racial prejudice, Vietnam, and the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy. These issues demonstrate that the concept of Gracious Space has been there all my life. We as a society are just getting better and better at it, and as generations come we build upon the good that was already there. Gracious Space provided language and a comfort zone to know that we are headed in the right direction.

The presentation of Gracious Space is what makes it feel powerful and new. The way in which people introduce and participate in Gracious Space provides a powerful hope for the direction we are heading in. Gracious Space allows us to feel the same passion towards humanity as Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and anyone else that we hold up as a leader, dedicated to moving towards a positive future for mankind.
