Dojo for Collective Resourcefulness

value rocksIn Otto Scharmer’s new book, Theory U: Leading from the Future as it Emerges, he writes, “We live in a time of massive institutional failure, collectively creating results that nobody wants…  Destruction of communities, nature, life—the foundations of our social, economic, ecological, and spiritual well-being.  This time calls for a new consciousness and a new collective leadership capacity to meet challenges in a more conscious, intentional, and strategic way.  The development of such a capacity would allow us to create a future of greater possibilities.”

In January 2008, the Center for Ethical Leadership, launched a new program to develop such capacity to create futures of greater possibility: the Dojo for Collective Resourcefulness.

The Dojo for Collective Resourcefulness is a place where our usual thoughts and behaviors are left at the door so that we are most open to new ideas, new experiences, and new learning.  It's a place of “practice” that utilizes the power of the helping relationship to ignite transformative change.

The dojo has developed a curriculum to develop new resourcefulness capacity on two levels: individual and collective.  Through experiential learning and inquiry, and using multiple intelligences, dojo participants will explore the patterns of thought, behavior and emotion that limit us—then learn tools, techniques, and practices to transcend those learned limitations.

The dojo meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday from 5:30-8:30pm.  If you are interested in participating in the dojo, please email Bruce Takata.

Dojo topics have included the following:

  • How do we move from Judgment to Preference?
  • How do we overcome our Learned Limitations?
  • What is Right Livlihood?

The following are items that past Dojo sessions have used as pre-reading material:
